Here is our simple advice: If you are fortunate enough to have Julie Jensen, Baird & Warner-Evanston as your Realtor (buy or sell), do whatever she tells you to do.We had been looking to move from our home of 33 years to a condo, and an opportunity in a building we love arose on short notice. Julie strongly suggested that we get our home ready for the market for the spring season (which now happens shortly after the Super Bowl). That gave us roughly six weeks to clean out three decades of assorted detritus, and do some upgrades to the home -- most of them at Julie's suggestion -- to maximize our return.Honestly, we would have been happy to wait for fall (more time to clean out the house), but this past spring, housing inventory in Evanston was super tight so pricing was on the high side. Waiting until fall would almost certainly have meant less return as available inventory rose. Julie was right!The first official showing netted four offers over asking, a return that surprised us and made our transition to the new place easier in every way.Not only is Julie wise about buying and selling homes, she's a warm, delightful human being. It was easy to trust her from day one. Moving is stressful, and we worked our tails off to get our home ready to sell, but Julie assisted us in every aspect of the process, from suggestions on home improvements to staging.
