Gastonia was the center of U.S. textile manufacturing for years, and the remaining factories and former mill villages are a testimony to the areaâ??s heritage. Historic storefronts along Main Avenue feature a variety of restaurants, retail, coffee houses and pubs.

Cultural attractions include the Schiele Museum of Natural History, home to the James H. Lynn Planetarium, the only planetarium in the Charlotte area.
